Blizzard changed the way we looked at RPG (Role-Playing Games) with their Diablo series, which has become one of the best selling games in history. Since then we have seen many games like Diablo (Diablo clones) come and go. Since it seems unlikely that Blizzard is going to release Diablo 3 anytime soon, Titan Quest is the next-best thing - Diablo like game - to play while you wait patiently for the Diablo 3 release.

It's not like this game has taking action RPGs to a whole new level or anything, but you'll probably have fun with it if you've enjoyed playing Diablo games in the past. Then there's the open-world "Sacred" and "Path to Exile, an online RPG which will soon become available for download and play for free.

If you enjoy playing bingo games online, then this game will take you to a whole new level as to go from bingo games to RPGs is a totally new world; you won't turn back!

There are Only a Few Diablo Like Games

Titan Quest
A game like Diablo that will take you to the ancient world in a great adventure across Greece, Egypt and China, before transforming you into a full scale hero (or heroine). Like in most RPG games, your character starts out simply... In fact, he doesn't even have a class until you reach level 2. Unlike the Diablo games, there's no randomization of mythical beasts, or terrain, or anything, to reward multiple quests and replayability. But, the single-player campaign is lengthy, which is good, and there's also the cool option of cooperative play. Up to 6 players can gang up and go questing, old-school Diablo style.

"Titan Quest" is the best alternative for Diablo 2.

While human-crafted maps are more eye-pleasing, the gameplay gets boring fast. What makes a game like Diablo 2 so rewarding and entertaining is the clear (and clever) sense of progression in both environment scale and combat difficulty. Titan Quest has a few dungeons here and there, but the sense of increasing danger isn't as pronounced as in Diablo 2 and the dungeons feel more like supermarkets than scary lairs. Diablo 2 is fast paced and action is always there when u need it. In Titan Quest you can't even teleport back to the city and there are no heroes or gods to talk with in this age of mythology, just an occasional storyteller. Not even an important NPC like Deckard Cain.

Even though the word "Quest" is integrated into the title of the game, the quests are fairly simple - as in all games like Diablo - you'll be constantly left-clicking throughout the world killing creatures and that's pretty much it. The loot system isn't that good either: even when you kill high level monsters, they still might drop useless items you get on the first kill, way back in Greece. Ignoring all of the above, this Diablo clone looks impressive and offers a ton of content. The voice acting is good and there's a also an expansion available for you, in case you enjoyed the first part of the game. If you want to try it out, grab the demo (500MB) and decide for yourself if Titan Quest is something in which you want to invest your time or you would rather wait for the Diablo 3 Release like me.

Sacred
Yet another game like Diablo, great-looking, but which provides a few interesting gameplay innovations such as: a huge, open-ended gameworld with well varied environments which are interesting to explore. Sacred's graphics are definitely its strength when compared with the aged visuals of the Diablo games, with the resolution locked at 1024x768.

The gameplay of Sacred, yet another game like Diablo:

Sacred: Dark and twisted, another great Diablo clone.

Sacred was clearly heavily inspired by the Diablo games and the similarities are a little too obvious at times: six character classes with predetermined genders, use of the Alt key to highlight the loot, upgradable socketed items, class-specific artifacts. So, what's different then? Well, let's take for example the quests, which are more frequent and varied, the option to buy a horse in order to travel faster, the mouse zoom function that allows you to get a better look at your surroundings, the handy hotkey which automatically picks up available loot or the restriction on the number of available hotkeys based upon your character's level (as you would expect, you begin with only one hotkey).

Sacred is a welcome addition to the RPG genre that distinguishes itself by incorporating several gameplay innovations and it's definitely deeper that Diablo II. Diablo fans may find something rewarding out of this game. Now you can live the adventurer's life with another Diablo clone!

Path to Exile
A free-to-play online RPG set in a dark fantasy world, Path to Exile is currently under development. Its developers intend to create a persistent online world capable of supporting hundreds of thousands of players. A dark and twisted world with a fixed 3D perspective, where you will fight dozens of foes across randomly generated levels.

We're looking forward to Path of Exile. Release already!

Lots of combat combinable skills and PvP tournaments are also expected. The public beta for Path of Exile has not yet begun but you can register here to receive a beta key when the game will be released (soon).
