Development on Diablo 3 began secretly in 2001, when Blizzard
North was still operational.

The original artistic style differed
a lot from that shown at Blizzard Invitational in 2008 and had undergone three revisions, after
the fans "yelled" on forums that
the graphics of Diablo III are not
dark/gothic enough and that
they are very similar to World
of Warcraft, describing the game
as "colorful and cartoon-like".
